Trip Insurance About Paul SivleyPaul Sivley is a seasoned professional photographer specializing in travel, portrait, architectural, food and product imagery. He has a studio in Portland, Oregon. He was trained at the Academy of Arts University in San Francisco, where he was able to hone his strong technical and artistic talents. Paul's previous careers include the U.S. Senate, Pacific Gas and Electric Company, and Mayor of San Carlos, CA. Paul has traveled to Peru, most of Africa, Southeast Asia, China, Russia, and former Soviet Republics. His passion is working with people and photography, whether in a studio full of lighting equipment or on the streets of Third world nations.
Paul's vision for this trip includes providing group and 1/1 instruction on how to bring each person's photography to the next level and assure a greater percentage of images they bring home meet or exceed what the client saw with their own eyes. He'll be surveying each client in advance of the trip as to their photographic and travel needs and expectations, as well as providing travel and photographic trips before and after our departure. Regarding the day-by-day itinerary, here are a few personal notes:

Exceptional Photography Experience! – If you have ever dreamed of going on a Photography tour or to Peru but have never made it, then this is the trip for you. The history of Peru from “photographer eyes“, the varied beauty of the land, the food, culture and music are a travel lover’s dream.
VERY IMPORTANT: Reserve your space now! - This trip is based on a maximum of 16 participants and is on a first come, first served basis. We have a short window before deposits are due mid march so we need a very quick count on those interested in this tour.
TOUR ITINERARY
Day 1 – Friday, May. 28
Depart USA for Lima, Peru
Depart home city via your chosen air carrier to Lima, arriving the following day, Saturday, May 29. (We will provide you with suggested flight itineraries/schedules).
Day 2 – Saturday, May 29
Arrive Lima
After clearing customs, you will be personally met by Paul who will escort you to the Taxi which will transport you to the Four Star Hotel San Agustin Exclusive Miraflores, your “home” for the first night (www.com). Following your check-in, the rest of the day is free for you to enjoy. Take a little time to freshen-up, rest and relax, and explore the property and the local area. This evening, please join Paul and your fellow travel companions for a “Welcome to Peru” Dinner and brief orientation about the Peru Program. The evening will be an early one because of the early morning departure and full day ahead on Sunday.
Day 3 – Sunday, May 30
Cuzco, Sacred Valley, Pisac, Ollantaytambo
Following an early breakfast and hotel check-out you will be transferred by Private bus or back to the Lima airport to catch the 8:35 AM flight to Cuzco. Once in Cuzco you will be transported by private van to Pisac to visit the Pisac Market, for which the city is best known. You will enjoy lunch on your own as you enjoy the local area and the Andean village, which retains much of its local charm as villages from miles around gather to barter and sell their produce. In the tourist section of the market you can buy a wide variety of handicrafts from the villagers.
You will be transferred to Ollantaytambo , a marvelous village built entirely from stone, has preserved its original Inca urban design and features the original drainage canals and cobbled streets. Ollantaytambo was the refuge of the last Inca who attempted to push back the Spanish invaders from this fortress town. In addition to its incomparable charm, You will visit the Ollantaytambo ruins, one of the most important archaeological sites of Peru which is considered the most representative of Inca architecture.
Following your visit of Ollantaytambo you will be transported to your 4 start hotel in uanahuara the Valle Sagrado Lodge. Enjoy an early dinner on your own and a good night’s rest at the hotel to be ready for another early start and a full day on Monday.
Day 4- Monday, May 31
Machu Picchu, The Lost Citadel
This morning, after an early breakfast and Hotel checkout, you will be transferred to the train station by private van to catch the Orient Express first class train from Vistadome to Aguas Calientes at 7:45 AM. Upon arrival you will stop by your 5 star hotel, Inka Terra Machu Picchu Pueblo to drop off luggage and then you will be transferred for a tour of Machu Picchu.
The ruins of Machu Picchu (9,060 feet elevation), UNESCO World Heritage, rediscovered in 1911 by archaeologist Hiram Bingham, are one of the most beautiful and enigmatic ancient sites in the world. Invisible from below and completely self-contained, surrounded by agricultural terraces sufficient to fee dthe population, and watered by natural springs, Machu Picchu seems to have been utilized by the Inca as a ceremonial city ans astronomical observatory. The ruins include palaces, baths, temples, storage rooms and some 150 house. These structures, carved from the granite of the mountain top are wonders of both architectural and aesthetic genius. Many of the building blocks, weighting 50 tons or more, are so precisely sculpted so perfectly that the mortarless joints will not permit the insertion of even a think knife blade.
You will have lunch at the Sanctuary Lodge and then have time for more touring of Machu Picchu before begin transported to your 5 star hotel where you will enjoy dinner.
Day 5– Tuesday, June 1
Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley, Chinchero, Sacsayhuaman
This morning you are free to return to Machu Picchu for early morning sunrise photographs or leisurely enjoy breakfast before your 2 minute walk to Aguas Calientes train station where you will depart you will depart on the Orient Express first class train vista dome to Ollantaytambo at 10:55 am.
You will transfer to the village of Chinchero by private val where you will experience traditional Peruvian lunch with a local family of weavers. After exploring this area following lunch you will be transported with your guide to visit the Sacsayhuaman ruins which are located on the heights of Cuzco and one of the most important Inca sites around the city of Cuzco. The Incas gave their capital city the shape of a sitting Puma with Sacsayhuaman representing the head. The site, divided into three parts, features 22 zigzagging walls acting as ramparts and representing the Puma’s teeth. It also displays a series of stone benches, perfectly preserved, known as the “throne of the Inca”.
Following your tour os Sacsayhuaman you will be transported by private van to your 5 star hotel Casa Cartagena Luxury Properties, your home for the next four nights. Tonight, the evening is on your own. Cuzco offers an excellent variety of classic and sophisticated dining options - and if there is a “heaven for carnivores” - you are in the right place!
Day 6 - Wednesday, June 2
Discover Cuzco
Following breakfast your tour guide will give you an orientation briefing for the Corpus Christi Festival to be held the next day. With your local guide you will visit San Pedro food market, Korichanca/Santo Domingo, Cathedral and Plaza de Armas.
You will have lunch at the Pacha Papa restaurant and then continue with tours of Cuzco churches. Visiting San Blas neighborhood and Church, La Compania Church, La Merced Church and its museums.
Late in the day you will enjoy a social cocktail drinks with Carlos Nishiyama, a renowned Peruvian photographer. Carlos opened his studio in 1980 following both his father and grandfathers footsteps in Peruivan photography. This is where he started to compile, archive and register all his and his family’s photographic heritage that document different eras in Peru.
Upon returning to your hotel you will enjoy dinner on your own as your explore Cuzco.
Day 7 – Thursday, June 3
Corpus Christi Festival, Cusco
After breakfast you have a free day to enjoy the annual Corpus Christi Festival. This is the largest festival in Cuzco, during which people flood the city’s main streets and squares. Dating from the period of the Incas, the celebration originally involved exhuming some 12 mummified Incas, which wer carried around the empire’s main Plaza. With the arrival of the Spaniards however, this festival was dramatically changed, becoming a procession of differ4ent saints from the churches of Cuzco. This modified ceremony continues today, with the figures of 15 saints are carried through the streets in a procession celebrated every May or June.
Day 8 – Friday, June 4
Free Day
This morning, after breakfast, enjoy another fee day for shopping, relaxing, or multiple other activities in the area.
Day 9 – Saturday, June 5
Puno, Lake Titicaca
After breakfast and hotel check-out, you will be transported to Cuizco’s airport by private van to catch your flight to Juliaca. Upon your arrival you will be transported by private bus to the village of Lampa. Here you will meet Llamas and alpaca breeders, who will demonstrate the alpaca shearing. Special arrangements have been made for you to watch the Ayarachi performers who are very respected in the area and will perform the ancestral Earth blessing ceremony “Pago a la Tierra”. This is an event only upon request by our Peru guide company who met them through a film documentary they did on this respected group.
You will enjoy lunch with the group in Lampa before your transfer to Puno by private bus where you will check-in to yur 4 star hotel Casa Andina Private Collection Lago Titicaca.
Lake Titicaca is the highest navigable lake in the world (12,628). Its deep blue waters contrast with the infinite horizon of the Altiplano, bathed in an incredible luminosity. Lake Titicaca is a sacred place for th eInca civilizition, because the firt Inca King, Manco Capac, was born here. According to the Incan mythology, this is the place where the world was created from,when the god ov Viracocha came out of the ake and fashioned the sun, the stars and the first people.

Day 10 – Sunday, June 6
Lake Titicaca, Uros and Taquile
After breakfast, you will take a private boat to and visit the Uros and Taquile Islands.
You will enjoy lunch with your group on the island of Taquile. The small ethnic group of the Uros started its floating existence several centries ago, in order to isolate itself from invading Colla and Inca tribes. Today, hundreds of Uros live on these islands, entirely built from “Totora”, a reed that grows abundantly in the depth of the lake. The Uros existence is entirely linked to the presence of Totora because the reed serves as the primary building material for housing and boat contstruction, but is also integrated into the Uros diet. Every three months, the inhabitants cover with fresh new layers of “Totora” the groud of their islands, in order to keep them from caving in.
The island of Taquile, located on the Peruvian side of the lake, offes magnificent views over the lake and the altiplano dominated by Andean Cordillera. It population oddly speaks Quechua and not Aymara, as most indigenous people of the region do, and reains a stron cultural identity with ancestral traditions. Marriages with non-Taquile dwellers are rare.
After returning to the hotel you will have another evening on your own to enjoy the area, ready for your early morning departure.
Day 11 – Monday, June 7
Following breakfast and hotel check out you will be transferred to the Juliaca Airport by private bus for your 9:10 am flight to lima. Upon your arrival you will be transported with your guide to visit Lima’s colonial center and visits to Plaza San Martin, Plaza de Armas, Cathedral, Convento San Francisco, Santo Domingo. You will also see the exterior of the Palacio Torre Tagle and Palacio del Gobierno. Lunch is on your own.
Following your tour you will be transported back to where you started your journey, 4 star hotel San Agustin Exclusive Miraflores. Here you will check in and get ready for a culinary pleasure at one of the finest restaurants in Lima, La Rosa Nautica, to enjoy a farewell dinner with your group.
Day 12 –Tuessday, June 8
Enjoy your last morning in Peru as you have breakfast and hotel check-out by 2 PM. At your convenience you will take your own taxi to the Lima airport for your departure home.
